Celebrity Inspiration for Naming Your Bey Bae

I don’t know about you, but choosing baby names for each of our children was a task much harder than I ever anticipated. My husband and I decided to be surprised on the gender of each of our children, so that meant we needed a boy and a girl name selected come delivery day. Each couple has different influences in making these decisions, so I thought it would be fun to take a look at some famous celebrity baby names and their meanings since celebrities have a reputation for choosing some truly unique names!

Let’s start by looking at power couple Beyoncé and Jay-Z, who have 3 children with one-of-a-kind names. Their first daughter is named Blue Ivy Carter. It turns out, newborn baby feet held by adult handsthe couple chose the name “Blue” based off of a description made by Rebecca Solnit in A Field Guide to Getting Lost: “…the light that gets lost, gives us the beauty of the world, so much of which is in the color blue.” What a beautiful inspiration behind the name! Also, many people believe “Ivy” is meant to represent the Roman numeral IV (or four), which is a symbolic number for the power couple for several reasons (both sharing birthdays on the fourth (HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEYONCE!), married on the fourth and albums with 4 in the title). The couple was also blessed with twins whom they named Rumi Carter and Sir Carter. Jay-Z has shared that Rumi’s name is in honor of Beyoncé’s favorite poet, a 13th century Persian lyricist. He has also shared that the name “Sir” was all about the little man’s attitude, stating “Sir was like, man, come out the gate—He carries himself like that. He just came out, like, Sir.”

Another famous celebrity couple, Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have two Littles with musical inspiration behind their names – how cute is that?! Their daughter is named Luna Simone, “referencing the legendary civil rights activist and soul singer Nina Simone.” Their son is named Miles Theodore, “Miles is, of course, the same name as the great Miles Davis,” John Legend has shared, which pays tribute to the famous jazz trumpeter. Like many parents can attest to, sometimes you simply have a name that you really like, which is how the couple chose Theodore as the middle name.

How many of you remember the TV show Sister, Sister? Tamera Mowry and her husband Adam Housely chose names for both of their children with faithful pink and blue balloonsinspiration, which is an important part of their life.  Their son is named Aden John Tanner. According to SheKnows.com, Aden is a Hebrew name meaning “handsome.” Per Adam Housely, “A for me, T for Tamera and John is both of our fathers’ middle names.” Their daughter is named Aria Talea, “both Hebrew names, Ariah means “Lion of God” and Talea means “one who resembles the morning dew of heaven.”

Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis chose some fabulous names for each of their children with some creative inspiration. Their daughter is Wyatt Isabelle, whose first name was randomly listed by Ashton Kutcher, while he and his wife were at a Lakers game. Kutcher got excited and began listing things he was seeing, like “Sign! Truck! Wall! Door!” then suddenly he said “What about Wyatt” and Kunis was sold. Her middle name comes from family roots, per Kutcher: “We gave her the middle name Isabelle after Mila’s grandfather, who was Yitzhak, so it has a little heritage [too].” The couple’s son is named Dimitri Portwood, which was also inspired by their heritage. “Dimitri is a very popular Russian name and Kunis, who moved to the U.S. from Ukraine at seven years old, is fluent in Russian herself. As for the meaning, according to Nameberry, ‘Dimitri is one of several possible spellings of this exotic, artistic and attractive Slavic variation of the name of [Demetrius], the Greek god of fertility and farming.” As for the middle name, Portwood, it is Kutcher’s step-father’s last name – which is another nod to their family.
